Highlights
Save quotes from sources, citations, and chat into durable highlight cards — run soft AI Source Actions, Save Insight from chat, filter by color, export Markdown, sync across Hub and native clients.
Before you start
- Signed-in account with a Mind notebook.
- MIND_HIGHLIGHTS is on by default on the API.
- Source Actions need MIND_SOURCE_ACTIONS=1 on the API (prod); off by default in code.
Steps
- 1
Hub: open a source preview → select text → Save highlight (or paste a quote for PDFs without a text layer).
- 2
Hub Sources panel: Highlights library lists all quotes; edit note/color; Export Markdown for Obsidian.
- 3
Source Actions: on a source row or highlight card, open AI actions → Summarize / Translate / Explain simply (and mind map / study guide on sources). Result opens in Studio or as a new highlight. Custom recipes: Hub Settings → Mind → Actions.
- 4
Save Insight: on an assistant chat reply, click Save Insight (or drag the bubble onto the Highlights tray on Hub) to keep the answer as a green insight card.
- 5
Mac / Windows / iOS / Android: same Summarize menu on sources and Save Insight on chat (custom actions stay Hub-only).
- 6
Mobile (iOS/Android): expand a source → Highlights strip → + to paste a quote; long-press an existing card to duplicate the quote into a new highlight.
- 7
Chat: citation preview → Save as highlight attaches the chunk quote to the notebook.
Common mistakes
- Six preset colors only — keeps Studio and export consistent.
- Quotes are soft-verified against source body when text exists; empty PDF bodies still allow manual paste.
- Source Actions cost less than full Studio Generate (one short LLM call on an excerpt); use Studio Generate for quiz/flashcards/timeline.
- Turn off MIND_HIGHLIGHTS on the API to hide highlights routes and mobile strips (404). Turn off MIND_SOURCE_ACTIONS to hide AI action menus (404).
- Windows: tray → Send to Mind → Save as highlight (Mind Thinking 1.9, created_from=dictate).
- Android: Settings → History → Send to Mind → Save as highlight, or share SAVE_HIGHLIGHT (Mind Thinking 1.10, created_from=dictate).
