Organize Notes with menus and drag-and-drop

Right-click or long-press folders and notes to rename, move, duplicate, and delete — or drag items onto folders and the root drop zone.

Before you start

  • Signed in with Notes open on Mac, Windows, Hub, iOS, or Android.

Steps

  1. 1

On Mac or Windows, right-click a folder in the sidebar. Choose New Note Here, New Subfolder, Rename, Move Folder (including To root), or Delete. System Inbox and Archive only allow New Note Here.

  2. 2

Right-click a note in the list or gallery. Pin or Unpin, Move to Folder, Duplicate, Export Markdown (desktop), or Delete. In Recently Deleted on Mac, use Restore or Delete Forever.

  3. 3

On Hub, right-click a folder chip or note row — the custom menu mirrors the desktop actions (native browser menu is suppressed).

  4. 4

On iPhone or Android, long-press a note or folder for the same core actions. Use the visible folder (Move) button when you do not want to swipe.

  5. 5

Drag a note onto a folder to move it, or drag a folder onto another folder to nest it. On Mac, drop onto the root drop zone to unparent a folder or send a note to Inbox.

  6. 6

When several notes are selected on Mac or Hub, the context menu offers bulk Move and Delete.

Common mistakes

  • Deleting a folder moves its notes to Inbox; child folders are reparented where the client supports it.
  • Drag-and-drop and toolbar controls remain available — context menus are for discoverability.
  • Depth is limited to three folder levels (same as Notes Hardening).
