Meeting recording consent and system audio

Explicit consent before mic recording on every OS, plus Zoom/Teams system audio privacy on desktop.

Before you start

  • FlyType Pro or Team plan for system audio.
  • Mac: Screen Recording permission, or BlackHole virtual device.
  • Windows: default playback device (WASAPI loopback).

Steps

  1. 1

Mic recording: Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android show an in-app disclosure before the first recording. OS microphone permission alone is not recording consent.

  2. 2

Tell participants and follow local recording laws. Declining keeps recording stopped; Import remains available.

  3. 3

Free users: record with Microphone or Import audio — never blocked by Pro gates.

  4. 4

Pro: choose System audio in Meetings before Record. Accept its separate privacy consent sheet.

  5. 5

Mac: grant Screen Recording when prompted (System Settings → Privacy & Security). FlyType probes shareable content for audio; Soft GA may also use BlackHole as a fallback route.

  6. 6

Windows: WASAPI loopback captures what the PC plays (remote Zoom/Teams speakers).

  7. 7

Zoom/Teams prompts default Never (meetings_system_audio_pref=never). Pro users can explicitly enable Ask when detected; detection never starts recording.

  8. 8

Revoke Mac Screen Recording anytime; Meetings falls back to microphone.

Common mistakes

  • System audio is a Pro billing hook — speakers, Ask, and base summaries stay Free.
  • Import from any third-party dictaphone remains Free on all platforms.
