macOS
Mac menu bar and hotkeys
Where FlyType lives on macOS and how to reach every feature.
Before you start
- FlyType installed in /Applications.
Steps
- 1
FlyType icon sits in the menu bar (right side). Click for dictation status, engine mode, and quick links.
- 2
Main menu (FlyType app menu): Settings ⌘,, Dictionary ⌘2, Notes ⌘5, Self ⌘6, Help → How to use.
- 3
Top section bar (Notes, Mind, Meetings, Insights, Self): same save-on-switch as the menu — Notes autosave, Meetings blocked while recording.
- 4
Default dictation hotkey: fn (hold to record). Change in Settings → Shortcuts.
- 5
Dock: optional main window for Notes, Mind, Insights — or menu-bar-only workflow.
- 6
Language: menu → Language switches UI instantly; syncs with Hub cookie.
Common mistakes
- Ad-hoc/dev builds: use Rebind permissions if Accessibility stops working after rebuild.
- Hide Dock icon: Settings → General → show in menu bar only.
- TopNav ⋯ splits Tools (Clipboard, Dictionary, Snippets) and More (Compose, Graph, Settings, Hub); recent tools pin next to the dictation chip.
