Lock a note on this Mac
Hide the note editor behind Touch ID or your Mac password. This is a local privacy gate — not Notes end-to-end encryption.
Before you start
- FlyType Mac app with Notes.
- Mac password or Touch ID available.
Steps
- 1
Right-click a note → Lock on this Mac.

Open the note — a lock gate appears until you unlock.
- 3
Click Unlock… and authenticate with Touch ID or password.
- 4
To remove the lock entirely: RMB → Remove Mac lock.
Common mistakes
- Bodies still sync in plaintext to the cloud. Do not treat lock as E2EE.
- Lock state is stored only on this Mac (UserDefaults). Other devices will not hide the same note.
- iOS / Windows / Hub lock UI is a soft residual.
