Meetings privacy: local audio vs cloud
Recordings can stay on your device; cloud upload unlocks speakers, Ask, and summaries.
Before you start
- FlyType Meetings Soft GA (v4.5.0+).
Steps
- 1
Default Soft path: Stop saves audio locally first, then uploads when you are signed in and online.
- 2
Mac: enable Keep audio on this Mac to skip cloud upload — file stays under ~/.flytype/meetings. Turn it off and Upload when you want cloud processing.
- 3
Cloud processing: STT + diarization + summary run on FlyType servers; Free audio retention is 14 days (Pro 90).
- 4
System audio (Pro) needs Screen Recording / loopback consent — separate from mic privacy.
- 5
You can delete a meeting in Hub; retention cron also clears expired audio blobs while keeping transcript text.
Common mistakes
- Local-only means no speakers/Ask until you upload.
- Import in Hub always uses the cloud path (you chose to upload a file).
