Microphone not working

Fix silent input, permission denials, and mic-in-use errors.

Fix mic permissions on Mac and Windows (20 s).

Steps

  1. 1

Check system permission: Mac → System Settings → Privacy → Microphone → FlyType ON. Windows → Settings → Privacy → Microphone → FlyType ON.

  2. 2

In FlyType Settings → Microphone, pick the correct input device (not a disconnected Bluetooth headset).

  3. 3

Run the mic level test in onboarding or Settings — bars should move when you speak.

  4. 4

Quit other apps that monopolize the mic (Zoom, Teams) and retry.

  5. 5

Mac: if using an external interface, select it explicitly; "System default" follows macOS input.

  6. 6

Still stuck? Sign out and back in, or Reset onboarding from the menu to rerun the mic wizard.

Common mistakes

  • Bluetooth headphones often add latency — use built-in mic for testing.
  • Android: disable battery optimization for FlyType if background capture stops.
