App updates by platform
How FlyType gets a new build on Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android — Store honesty on mobile; soft in-place on desktop when enabled.
Before you start
- FlyType installed on the device you want to update.
Steps
- 1
iOS — Tap Update in Store on the banner. FlyType opens TestFlight or the App Store (from the server download_url). The new build installs through Apple — never as a fake in-app replace.
- 2
Android (Play) — The banner says updates go through Google Play. Tap Update to open the Play listing. Optional Play In-App Updates (flexible) may show an OS sheet when the soft flag PLAY_IAU_FLEXIBLE is on; that is still Play-owned UX, not a silent replace.
- 3
Android (Hub APK) — Sideload builds open the Hub APK / package installer. Status is installer opened — the app does not claim «updated» until you finish the OS install prompt.
- 4
Mac / Windows — FlyType’s own in-place updater (Path B on Mac; Inno/zip on Windows) can stage and apply after confirm when CLIENT_INPLACE_* flags are on. Sparkle is not required. Until flags are on, the prompt opens the DMG / Setup download. Profile data is never wiped by the updater.
- 5
Pressure (Manual / Remind / Insist) and min_supported hard-block stay under Settings → Updates — see App updates and min supported version.
Common mistakes
- Opening Store, DMG, Setup, or an APK installer is not the same as «applied».
- Desktop in-place = FlyType helper (own system), not a third-party auto-updater dependency.
- Hub → Download remains the break-glass path when Store links are missing.
