Punctuation engine (rules, pauses, model)

Choose how FlyType adds commas and periods — spoken commands, speech pauses, or a small punct model. No chat AI rewrite.

Before you start

  • Signed in — Hub Settings → Style, or synced prefs on desktop/mobile.

Steps

  1. 1

Open Hub → Settings → Style → Punctuation engine (Mac/Windows/mobile sync the same pref after login).

  2. 2

Rules only — spoken commands (comma / запятая) plus grammar rules. Fastest; no pause or punct model.

  3. 3

Rules + pauses (default) — also inserts commas and periods at natural gaps between cloud STT segments (~450 ms comma, ~800 ms period).

  4. 4

Full — on long cloud dictation (>12 words), a dedicated punctuation model adds missing marks. Still no chat rewrite — only punctuation.

  5. 5

Short phrases always stay on the fast rules path (rules_fast), even in Full mode.

  6. 6

Changes apply on the next dictation after preferences sync.

Common mistakes

  • Use spoken commands when you need an exact mark in a specific place.
  • Pause punctuation works best with cloud STT segment timing; Mac local can send WhisperKit segment gaps when available.
  • Full mode requires cloud polish path and server-side punct sidecar when enabled — fail-open keeps rules output if the model times out.
  • Text stays on FlyType infrastructure — punctuation does not use third-party chat LLM APIs.
