Dual clipboard buffers (A / B)
Keep the system clipboard and a second private FlyType buffer — Copy-B never overwrites ⌘V.
Before you start
- Desktop: Mac or Windows app with Accessibility / paste permissions; Buffer B hotkeys on in Settings.
- Mobile: FlyType iOS or Android — open Notes → Clipboard (no global hotkeys on mobile).
Steps
- 1
Copy something with the normal system shortcut — that is Slot A.
- 2
Desktop: select other text and press Copy-B (default ⌃⌥C / Ctrl+Alt+C) — Slot B stores it without changing A.
- 3
Paste A with ⌘V / Ctrl+V as usual.
- 4
Desktop: press Paste-B (⌃⌥V / Ctrl+Alt+V) to insert Slot B into the focused field.
- 5
Desktop: open the buffers menu (⌃⌥B) or HUD clipboard popover to preview A and B, swap, or clear B.
- 6
Mobile: Notes → Clipboard → Buffers strip — Save current → B, then Copy B to system when you need the second clip.
Common mistakes
- Buffer B stays on this device only — never synced to Hub.
- Disable Buffer B hotkeys anytime if they conflict with another app.
- Clipboard History (Phase 41) is separate — buffers are two live slots, not a long list.
- iOS/Android cannot register global Copy-B/Paste-B shortcuts — use the on-screen buttons.
